The first ever meeting of the “Bilateral Commission” between Egypt and Portugal took place on the 19th of October, presided over by countries’ Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sameh Shoukry and Mr. Augusto Santos Silva.
The Commission saw the presence of the Secretary of State for Energy, Mr. Jorge Seguro, the Secretary of State for Administrative Reforms, Ms. Graça Fonseca and several other representatives from different ministries. Together all parties went over the different cooperation areas between Egypt and Portugal, which resulted in the signature of 5 MoU in the areas of Air Travel, Archive Management, Cooperation, Sports and Youth an Tourism.
In that same day, both Ministers of Foreign Affairs inaugurated the Business Forum Egypt-Portugal. This forum, the first of its kind in Egypt, brought together 18 Portuguese companies and more than 100 Egyptian companies, hence highlighting the interest and potential on both sides of this newly formed relationship.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also held private meetings with Mr. Tarek Kabil, Minister for Industry and Commerce and Ms. Sahar Nasr, Minister for Investment and International Cooperation. He was also received by Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayb from Al Azhar.
The Secretary of State, Ms. Graça Fonseca also held meetings outside the Business Forum context, in which the possibility to implement the SIMPLEX system was explored in the context of Administrative Modernization. She was received in the Parliament by the President of the Local Planning Commission, Deputy Ahmed El Siginy, the Minister of Planning and Administrative Reforms, Ms. Hala Sayed, the Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and finally also by H.E. the President of Egypt.
The Secretary of State for Energy, Mr. Jorge Seguro, was one of the opening speakers in the first Business Forum for Energy and Climate, held in Cairo on the 18th of October and put together by the Union for the Mediterranean and the Government of Egypt.
Present also as Speakers, Minister for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister for Investment and International Cooperation, Ms. Sahar Nasr, and the Secretary General of the UfM, Mr. Fathalla Sijilmassi.
Mr. Seguro also held meetings with Portuguese companies who were present at the UfM Forum and other relevant Egyptian authorities in this domain.
